Flip's edit: Ok fine, since understandably the thread is quite massive and you want a summary, click these links. Courtesy of the diligent a_doubt:

So me and some friends showed up to the mars volta show in raleigh.

We arrived to a women and man telling us the show had been canceled and that we could get the money we paid back.

After talking to alot of fans that were disappointed, I found one girl who says she came really early with her mom and this taxi cab came up to them asking if they were the ones who asked for a cab to the airport.

They said it wasnt them then they watched as the taxi drove to the back of the venue and picked up thomas pridgen.

Later on about 2 hours after we arrived and all the mars volta stage people left my friend asked the security guard that was inside what the reason was for the cancellation.

The security guard said "I was told that the show was canceled because during the sound check, the band leaders fired the drummer."

THIS IS A SAD SAD SAD DAY. Hopefully they get him back else what will they do for all of europe?

also so this post:

Showed up at 4:30 to pick up tickets and hang around for a bit when we were told by an employee that the show had been cancelled. We hung around the parking lot next door to re-group and wait for our friends and ended up staying there for a few hours talking to people as they came and went.

This is what I gathered from talking to various people:

The band showed up for the sound check but left suddenly just before we arrived. We met a girl and her mother later that night and they told us they drove by earlier to check the place out and saw the band sitting on the curb shooting the shit or whatever they do before the show. They ended up walking back down there hoping to run into someone from the band and they were approached by a taxi. The driver asked if they called for a taxi to take them to the airport. They said no and not long after that Thomas came out with a suitcase and got in. One of my friends walked around for a while and he said that a security guard told him they cancelled the gig because the band fired their drummer. One of the employees that was breaking the bad news to fans said the band got in some sort of argument/fight and ended up leaving during or after the sound check. So, allegedly, the band fired Thomas and/or got into a fight amongst themselves and cancelled the show. Make of it what you will but this is what we heard from employees, security guard and fans that got turned away so it could hold merit. They played in Charlotte last night so I doubt it was due to sickness. It had to have been a last minute decision because why would they show up, sound check and set up if they were going to cancel it? Sort of sucks.

So, yeah, who knows.

I doubt they fired him, they probably had a fight but I'm sure he'll be back.

Hopefully. Thats just what the people that work there said, that omar and ced told the managers.

IDK man the only ones that know it are my group of friends because the girl we were talking to saw him leave in a taxi to the airport, and then the security guard told my friend that his boss told him the "band leaders fired the drummer". so we figured that it went together.

Well...if they lose him that might be the end of the band for a while. He's great but he does fuck up quite a bit, I saw two shows in a week and he messed up badly twice, on Drunkship in Philly and Viscera in Cleveland. He also fucked up Viscera at Bonnaroo which seemed to really piss off Omar cuz his solo got cut short (well, not really short but not as long as he wanted). The beats he plays on Eunuch are ridiculous and take away from the feel of the song. I love his playing but I've always felt that he just doesn't exactly fit, the music isn't sounding like it's supposed to.

Weird as it sounds though, deep down I hope it's true because I think they've gone as far as they're going to go with Thomas. They were good this year in concert, but they were better last year. And better in 2006 with Blake (seriously, he wasn't good but the band kicked tons of ass). And better in 2005 with Jon.

Of course, I could see Omar/Cedric telling people that just to get us all talking and mess around.

Well shit.

If this is true... take the time off, get another drummer that people will once again fall in love with, recharge the batteries, and start anew.
