I really love John Zorn. Especially the Masada Project. He is also a great composer.

I ADORE Naked City, Masada, Painkiller (seriously, Painkiller are the most brutal band I've ever heard, improvisational grindcore!!), loads of his solo albums as well. His earlier really improvisational stuff like the gamepieces doesn't really appeal to me much, but later albums like Music For Children, The Circle Maker and the album of Ennio Morricone reinterpretations he made are awesome. I need to get into his Filmworks stuff but he's just too damn prolific!

Love him.

His next album Moonchild is described as a "hardcore song cycle" and features old favourites like Mike Patton and I think Fred Firth and a few others. "this is Torture Garden with an alchemical twist—spontaneous, complex and evocative. Eleven new Zorn compositions executed with a ritualistic passion that will take your breath away"

The Big Gundown, Circle Maker and some of Masada's stuff would be my Zorn of choice.

Natch, Naked City and Torture Garden and Guts of a Virgin are classics.

Naked City and Masada are two of my favourite bands ever.

"Perfume Of A Critic's Burning Flesh" is such a great song

I thought there were a whole series of Filmworks albums? I have one of them, it has his score for the documentary Shaolin Ulysses on it, one of my favorite soundtracks ever, its beautiful. I also enjoy a bit of Naked City from time to time, and I like Spillane. I need to check out some more of his stuff.
