this thread is to review/discuss this album. the other thread is flooded with requests for links, and no conversation can be carried. ill start this thread with my views on the album(although slightly negative).
i honestly think im the only one who isnt blown away at all at this. it sounds very...i dont know. i feel like the whole album has the same vibe with each song that i just can't get into. this album to me is everything se dice wasnt(and i fuckin love se dice). i kinda feel like these were just bsides and bad ideas that got left off se dice. i totally understand that the caliber of plaing is much higher, but im just not feeling whats being played.
also, alot of omars soloing doesnt sound like his signature weird/cool sounding stuff. the knee deep song makes me think of power cosmic 2000 pt 2 by joe satriani, and again, the whole album sounds like omar took lessons from steve vai and satriani.
i hope after a couple more listens i can dig it.

I think this goes really well with the yellow album, I'm only on knee deep, but so far, this album to me is like yellow album part 2.
I hope Jakob IIs ending is a lot better than the originals, I sadly can't finish that track...too much noise.
now I'm on Jakob II it sounds a lot like the 10.28.06 Jakob jam. Anyone agree?

The guitar work...oh my fucking god!

speaking of jacob, i dont like how the backin is covered in wierd effects and just as viscera being played behind it. deantoni's version was so sick, with that tight, math-rock type beat behind it

I agree this is just the better version of the Yellow album.

Jacob II is much better then the first, IMO. Apocaplyse might also be the better version of Vondelpark (I'll have to listen to it more though). I love Knee Deep. And Coma isn't the most creative thing he's done but it's pretty cool anyway. The tracks in between those are all OK as well (none really stick out but I didn't feel like I was bored listening to them either).

It's hard to compare it to Se Dice. But at least it's better then the rest of his solo stuff. There's some pretty nice things going on in here.

se dice so far has been my least favorite. Apocalypse sounds A LOT like Vulnerado from Amputechture if you ask me.
Jakob II...wow that was a freaking trip, such a better version. Baby Fat and knee deep were amazing as well.
For anyone waiting to purchase this, I say this is really worth the purchase. The only track i'd that is skippable is Fuerza I just can't get into it.
Coma Pony reminds me of a twisted Santana song. Doesn't matter what's going on, because you're going to hear sick guitar work.

Is Melting Chariots clipping for anyone else? Was that intended?

Hmmm what did I say in the other thread...
I hear many likenesses in parts/themes..
Knee Deep In The Loving Hush Of Heresy >>> Rapid Fire Tollbooth
Jacob Van Lennepkade II >>> Viscera Eyes
Apocalypse has a flutey theme that could be the theme from the Bourne trilogy:/
And Coma Pony doesnt deserve the praise:S It's very anticlimactic, would fit perfectly into the soundtrack for Deus Ex maybe.

I agree, it's more of a chillout album.
I greatly enjoy Coma Pony; it's very sexy and seductive.
Also the ending of "Knee Deep..." blew my mind. It was very out of the blue, kinda caught me off guard and made me say "....wow!"
I enjoyed all the other tracks, as well, except for the title track; I basically skipped through it.
I'm also trying not to compare it to other Omar/Volta albums, and i'm trying to listen to it in its own right.

Also, Sparked From The Insult List reminds me of those old time salsa-type bands where each instrument had a solo, and after the solo everyone would clap. It made me feel good listening to the flute solo :) Oh, and I also had a flash back of Berkeley '05, when Adrian had that flute solo during L'Via, I believe (I WAS NOT TRYING TO COMPARE IT! HAH!)

yeah, as Meshell Ndegeocello said, with Deantoni you get to strap on the spacesuit and enjoy the ride. that vegoose jam was killer. I hope he got to record at least something to be officially released with the band. not having heard Thomas on Calibration, I would've penciled him in as perfect for that kind of record.

I love this so much. I agree with what you've been saying, though, that whil Jacob is great it should've been the Vegoose thing rather than the same riff just f'ed up.

Also, if anyone has one of the bootlegs of a 2005 Omar Quintet show (Mainly whichever one was in Vienna, as I have it), you know how they play Vondelpark Bij Nacht? THAT'S ACTUALLY THE TITLE TRACK FROM THIS ALBUM OMG
