Didn't think this would fit in too well with the other threads -- it'd get lost in the ocean of people requesting pms for the leak and stuff, and it probably deserves its own thread.

A lot of this stuff is inaudible/spanish to me, so... I'll give the only song I've halfway understood so far a shot, Calibration:

Underneath the shells when bitten
End your brittle carcass-wrath
Everytime you make me ???
I grow distant and opaque

Lost ability that pleasures
Have you the patience to commute
Through a traffic you have driven
From the buffalo you shoot?

I have to warn you
But I haven't got a clue
Something that's adjacent
Made of only half the truth

Little cripple-slits won't mention
Every stash that marks your back
The fish-eye taste its own remission
Calibrates your mother's back

Give me all of that ??? that's pissing
Broke the back and watch it crack
I am the last of all your prisons
Enemy, acquaintance past

What's funny is it's probably Omar's best album since Frances, but it's nothing like FTM.

I desperately hope that someone has a go at Omar's Spanish lyrics. I can speak Spanish to an extent, but the distortion makes it tough for me to make anything of it...I'm sure it'd come easier for a native speaker.

Calibration main thread page 28 - Lick the Tilting Poppies & El Monte T'ai lyrics

Interpretation of both, you just gotta scroll. Then go to page 30 for Sidewalk Fins.

Underneath the shells when bitten
Wrap your brittle carcass-wrath
Everytime you make me hear them
I grow distant and opaque

Lost ability that pleasures
Have you the patience to commute
Through all traffic you have driven
From the buffalo you shoot?

I have to warn you
That I haven't got a clue
Stars became adjacent
Made of only half the truth*

Little cripple-slits won't mention
Every stash that marks your back
The flesh I taste is on remission
Jackel/Shackle/Cackle that breaks your mother's back

Give me all of them that's pissing/piercing
Poke the back and watch it crack
I am the last of all your prisons
Enemy, acquaintance past

*Can't decide between this and May not only have the truth

Some things that I'm hearing differently to you I've put in bold.

Any one post them yet? I have a lot of trouble understanding the Spanish. It seems like by now someone would have done some, so I apologize if this topic already exists.

"Calibration" and "Is Pushing Luck..."

Underneath the shells when bitten
End your brittle carcass-wrath
Every time you make me hear it,
I grow distant and opaque

Lost ability that pleasures
Have you the patience to commute
Through a traffic you have driven
From the buffalo you shoot?

I have to warn you
But I haven't got a clue
Storms that keep adjacent
Made of only half the truth

Little cripple-slits won't mention
Every stash that marks your back
The flesh I tasted stole remission
Cackle that breaks your mother's back

Give me all the bath that's pissing
Poke the back and watch it crack
I am the last of all your prisons
Enemy, acquaintance past

I disagree

Underneath her shells when bitten
Laugh your brittle carcass wrath
Every time you make me hear them
I grow distant and opaque

Your core stability that pleasures
Have you the patience to commute
Through a traffic you have driven
From the buffalo you'd shoot

I have to warn you
That I haven't got a clue
Stones they keyed adjacent
Made of only habit, too

Bill the Cripple's switch won't mention
Every stair-step marks your back
The flesh I tasted stole remission
Cackle that breaks your mother's back

Give me all the bout that's pissing
Poke the back and watch it crack
I am the last of your prisons
Enemy acquaintance past

I have to warn you
That I haven't got a clue
Stones they keyed adjacent
Made of only habit, too

Bill "the Cripple" W was the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, back in the '30s, and so the father of all the various 12 Step organizations today. Why "the Cripple"? Because these programs are based on the premise that the addict is "powerless" in controlling his addiction, and that the only way one can be "cured" of this "disease" is by admitting to that powerlessness and praying to God for deliverance from one's sins. And so, one needs to take a "fearless moral inventory," going back through the whole of one's life, examining the role of one's childhood, and all the wrongs one has done while under the influence, and one works the steps from there.

Trouble is, all this was based on the teachings of an evangelical cult Bill belonged to, and has nothing whatsoever to do with science. Modern science demonstrates that addiction is not a "disease". It is, in fact, a healthy function of the brain stem and spinal cord, known collectively as the "reptilian brain," as this is the part of the brain we have in common with snakes, lizards, turtles and the like. Essentially what happens is that the reptilian brain operates solely on the pleasure principle, and when it encounters something intensely pleasurable, it tends to put it in the same category as things like air, water, sex, food.... basic survival needs. And it will do whatever it can to make sure the steady supply of said substance is not interrupted. It has no direct control over the voluntary muscles, so in order to get its needs met, it needs to persuade the higher levels of the brain to do its bidding. Thing is, these higher levels of the brain are more evolved and rational, so if one can recognize the situation, one can easily counter the irrational desires of the reptilian brain using the higher mental faculties.

Hence, what's needed in countering addiction is not to "admit powerlessness" and declare oneself a cripple, but to take the power that is rightly one's own and tame that snake. And, in fact, the 12 Step programs' emphasis on the past, and this endless cycle of "remission and relapse", suits the snake just fine -- because he is the original "creature of habit." He loves crawling around in circles, because circles are "safe", and he's all about security. Laughter, humor, on the other hand, are functions of the higher, rational, human mind, and serve to snap one back into the present, and can be used as an antidote to the reptilian brain's circles. Humor, after all, always relies on redirection, on the unexpected.

"Bill the Cripple's switch won't mention every stair-step marks your back". Why? Well, the very statement indicates he is all about whipping the sinner, he is all about slavery to a "higher power" (God), and the mortification of the flesh. But, even his 12 Steps (sometimes called "stepping stones," which was also the name of his house) are nothing but habit, nothing but the same stuff the snake loves so much. Substituting an addiction for recovery groups and dependency on God for an addiction to and dependency on the substance of your choice.

And that, to me, is the sense of this song.
