I barely ever come on here, but I'd like to say a few things about TMV's awesome performance at the Melbourne BDO.
My friends and I were basically there for Muse and had been in the D since the end of Eskimo Joe, but had sat at the back through HH and Dizzee. We got up in Lily Allen and got a good spot right near the stage, on our right side.
The Mars Volta were amazingly awesome live. About half of us (me and my friends) were TMV fans as well, the others didn't like it. I'm still not a really massive fan yet, I don't know De-loused very yet for example, but they're still one of my favourite bands.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but they played Son et Lumiere+Inertiatic ESP, Cotopaxi, L'Via L'Viaquez and Cicatriz ESP, awesomely long jam version. Omar and Cedric are crazy live, I love it. The pure talent and energy coming from the performance was amazing.
The only sad thing was that most of the crowd were Muse fans who didn't know or like TMV, so there wasn't much moshing, except a bit on the left side. Maybe that's why Cedric went over there when he got off the stage (that was cool), all the picks and drumsticks were thrown over that side too. (All those picks and we didn't get one!)
By the way, sorry for being a noob, but what does Cedric drink on stage? He got a new glass every few minutes, it was ridiculous.

so can I be hopeful in thinking we will be getting some kick ass recordings from the upcoming big day out shows?
If things go to plan I'll be recording 2 sources for each show I see:
CA-14 > CA ST-9100 Preamp > i-River iHP-120
CA-11 > Edirol R-09 (not sure about battery box on this one)
this applies to:
2010-01-17 - Gold Coast BDO
2010-01-18 - The Tivoli, Brisbane
2010-01-20 - The Hordern, Sydney
2010-01-25 - Festival Hall, Melbourne
2010-01-26 - Melbourne BDO
The show at the Hordern will also be recorded by my friend Morris. He'll be using CA STC-11 > CA ST-9100 Preamp > i-River iHP-120. I think he's also got one of the Sydney BDO's covered.
Anyway, I'll probably only share one sideshow and one BDO in the beginning as I'm gonna try and use some of the recordings (both Melbourne ones definitely, so hopefully no one spreads another recording of them at first) to set up a trade with the guy who filmed Melbourne 2008 (both shows), 2007 (which I want so badly!!) and 2006 (Jon's last solo show). So if all goes to plan this could be a good summer for volta boots from our little country.
Wait! You're recording the Muse performances as well! If you do put up the Muse and TMV performances from the Melb BDO, I will be forever grateful.
